St. Patricks's Day Fair

BTW - I forgot to mention that I took two rolls of film at the St. Patrick's Day Fair at the ICC in Downtown Phoenix.  I took them in to be developed, and hope to have them up on my blog by the middle of next week. (For those parents anxiously awaiting their kids pictures - unlike a lot of photographers today, I actually take film.  And since it's art photography, I just don't trust drugstore development - I have a lab I use in Tempe.  Downside to this is that it takes me a little longer to get my photos back)

Got some great shots mostly of people.  Everybody was so dressed up I just couldn't resist!  So look for these to be out soon!

Horse...and Feedback

a
I took this pictures on the coast of Washington, while I was on a horseback ride along the beach with my husband and sister-in-law.  I'd love to say I spent hours setting this up, and really thought it out - but this is another photo I took by instinct.  I had my camera out watching the foal, and I turned around in the saddle and just took this one.  The hardest part of taking this is that they hadn't shortened my stirrups enough, and I had to grip the horse with my legs the entire time.  I love how the line on the sand interact with the line of the horse, shadow and driftwood.

No foals were harmed in the taking of this photo - the horse I was riding was this ones mama - and he just didn't want to stay home when she started out on the ride.  He was pretty tired by this point though.

On another note - I know there are a bunch of people out there looking at what I'm posting - and I'd love some feedback.  What photos have you liked - and why?  I'm considering putting some of these on T-shirts, etc for sale - and I'd love to know which ones I should use for that project.

I will be in Florida the rest of this week - but will try to check in later this week.  Alligators await!

Tree 'Shrooms

A couple of weeks ago, I went over to a friends' house and asked them to give me a digital copy of the photography I did for their wedding (great wedding BTW!).  I had been so excited to get them the photos, I forgot to make a digital copy for my files.

Well - in the batch of wedding photos, they also gave me some of their engagement photos I also did that I also forgot to get digitals of.  I took them out at Hassayampa river preserve - a wonderful nature area that yes - has an underground river that surfaces for a mile or so of stream and natural lake just outside of Phoenix.  Lots of wildlife and wonderful trees.  And tree mushrooms.  These were just so cool I had to photograph them.  Just like my friends :)

Light through the Trees

Sitting here having a wonderful cup of  coffee, eating pancakes, and thinking about photography (of course).  This photos is one of the exceptions to my anti-thinking ban.  I took this as part of my first assignment in a photography class.  It was my first photography class - and I knew what I wanted to accomplish, but up til then had been muddling about, and had no idea what made some of my photos blah, and some great.

Our assignment was "Light".  I went driving up in Northern Arizona, and happened to notice the sun going down through the pine trees on a dirt road.  I had to move around quite a bit until I got the "ray" effect that I wanted.  I also had to be very careful printing this to make sure I kept the definition on the rocks in the foreground on the road.
